GOPIO- Global Organization of People of Indian Origin, A platform which brings the Global Indian Community together. An estimated 25 million people of Indian origin (NRIs and PIOs) are living outside India. GOPIO is bringing the expertise and knowledge of the Indian Overseas Community to India and integrating into India’s development process, simultaneously it is also recognizing their efforts by presenting GOPIO awards. 
Recently, GOPIO awards were presented at a spectacular award ceremony in the Capital at Ashoka Hotel, where The Rt Hon. Baroness Usha Prashar of Runnymede- CBE, Ram Lakhina, The Netherlands- one of the founder of the GOPIO, P.N.C. Menon, Oman, The Middle East-founder of Sobha Developers in Bangalore which is providing employment to many people in that locality with more than 20 projects. Dr. Mani Bhaumik, USA – who is encouraging education in India by contributing scholarships to all the schools and colleges he attended in India. Moses V. Nagamootoo, Guyana etc.
Apart from above mentioned NRIs and PIOs, other receiver of GOPIO award from India, J.C. Sharma, SM IFS (Ret.) former secretary, Minister of External Affairs and Member Secretary if the High Level Committee on Indian Diaspora, he has made significant contribution in formulation of India’s policy towards its Diaspora. He was the organizer of first &second Pravasi Bharatiya Divas He has written several articles on Diaspora issues and has authored two books on Cham temples in Vietnam.
GOPIO also felicitated Dr. Dhani Ram Baruah with Special award for his contribution towards the awareness and eradication of coronary artery diseases and for his effort in Applied Human Genetic Engineering to cure the rarest of the rare diseases. Out of several hundred of patients treated by Dr. Baruah, were treated or refused to be treated in Tata Cancer Institute, CMCH, Vellore, AIIMS, New Delhi or Apollo Hospitals. They were treated by Baruah genetic engineering and are getting cured.
